Classic Vans silhouettes lend themselves to experimentation with unique materials and colorways well, as evidenced by last month’s wild “Factory Floor” Vans Old Skool Womens, and now the California-based brand is back at it again with a two-tone denim take on two of their most iconic silhouettes: the Old Skool and the Authentic. Both shoes feature a dark denim toebox, while the midfoot is dressed in a lighter blue denim. Dark denim accents also make an appearance on the tongue, throat, and heel of the Vans Old Skool for Sale, while the Authentic keeps it simple with light blue denim throughout.
Vans — despite leaving these core classics largely untouched for the past few decades — has begun to implement a more eclectic design ideology as marked by its reconstructed Vans Sk8-Hi and Vans Slip-Ons. Keeping the iconic low-top silhouette and suede/canvas tooling of the Vans Old Skool Mens, the California brand brings back the model in white and black with a removable checkerboard jazz stripe which lifts to reveal a red variation of the same print.
Virgil Abloh’s OFF WHITE imprint is currently busy with a rumored 10 pair Nike/Jordan Brand collaboration including the likes of a deconstructed Air Jordan 1, the Nike VaporMax, the Nike Air Max 90, and the pairs of the Nike Air Force 1 and Nike Blazer. If that wasn’t enough to hint at the fact that the fashion imprint wasn’t limiting their scope, then this upcoming Vans Old Skool Outlet Store shows that there’s no slowing down OFF WHITE’s popularity in 2018. The OFF WHITE Vans Old Skool features the signature “Everything in Quotes” seen throughout the Nike collaboration with “Blank Canvas” written on the white canvas upper and a contrasting vulcanized black midsole and outsole featuring the brand’s arrow logo. There’s some lingering inspiration from the Vans Happy Daze silhouette on the toecap and heel, too.
The print itself is a rare vintage embellishment that was first used by Vans in the ’80s, and Barneys has elevated it a notch by embroidering the whimsical dinosaurs directly onto the upper instead of using a simple printed canvas. The collection consists of six shoes in total: black/white Vans Old Skool Discount and Vans Authentics plus a black Vans Sk8-Hi and a kids-only black Vans Slip-On, all of which are completed with classic Vans touches like white rubber midsoles, jazz stripe side detailing, and retro metal eyelets.
