(Hong Kong)(Caixin Online) – The president of one of China’s major brokerages Women's Sony Michel Jersey , Guotai Junan Securities, has resigned as the central government strengthens efforts to check the family backgrounds and overseas links of executives at state-backed companies.


Shanghai-based Guotai Junan issued a statement on its website on June 4 that said Chen Geng submitted his resignation as company president for "personal reasons.” Chen will remain as vice chairman.


The resignation requires the approval of city officials and the company’s board of directors, the statement said.


Established in 1999, Guotai Junan is controlled by the Shanghai government. It is on track to list on the city’s stock exchange.


Several sources said Chen was suspended as president for a period after the Communist Party’s graft fighter sent officials to investigate him about two months ago.


The inspection is linked to Chen’s family because his wife and three children hold foreign passports, a source close to Guotai said.

Chen’s case is apparently linked to a party inquiry into officials and executives of state-backed firms whose family members are living abroad or at least have foreign passports. The party fears that “naked officials” – those whose families move abroad while they continue to work in China – can move ill-gotten gains out of the country and flee later to avoid punishment.


The central government issued a regulation in January that banned officials who have spouses or children moving overseas from promotions to senior positions. The official People’s Daily said on May 29 that the southern province of Guangdong had demoted nine bureau-level officials who were deemed to be “naked officials.”


Many senior executives of state-backed financial institutions who have overseas links are likely to be removed from important posts as the party’s inspection unfolds, a source closed to the financial regulator said.


Chen is likely to be moved into an honorary position without any real power, the source close to Guotai Junan said.


Chen, who was born in 1968, participated in the establishment of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 1990 and later became the general manager of its public listing department. He joined Guotai Junan in 1996 and previously headed the investment banking department.


Guotai Junan is one of the country’s largest brokerages. It had total assets last year of 117.8 billion yuan, revenue of 7.3 billion yuan and turned a profit of 2.5 billion yuan.
