LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers began the season Down Under in Australia. Kirk Mclean Jersey . Theyve arrived at the All-Star break on top of the NL West. Hyun-Jin Ryu struck out 10 and outpitched first-time All-Star Tyson Ross, Yasiel Puig singled home the only run and Los Angeles beat the San Diego Padres 1-0 on Sunday. A day after beating the Padres 1-0, the Dodgers did it again to take a one-game lead over San Francisco in the division race. They have overcome a 9 1/2-game deficit for the second year in a row despite numerous injuries. "I think its a testament to the work that our front office has done, gathering this group of people," said A.J. Ellis, who hit a winning sacrifice fly in the ninth Saturday night. "I think everybody knows from last years experience that it takes more than 25 guys to get where you want to go. And its about having the right people in those spots." "We kind of knew that this would all turn around and that the people in this room were capable of it. So we never lost that confidence, and I think we did a good job of sticking together," he said. Puig was ejected Saturday night for arguing a called third strike. He struck out his first two times up Sunday, then hit an RBI single in the sixth inning after Dee Gordon singled and stole his major league-leading 43rd base. Ryu (10-5) gave up two hits in six innings without a walk. The left-hander retired his first 11 batters and allowed only one hit through the first five innings, a two-out single in the fourth by Carlos Quentin. The Padres only other hit against him was a leadoff single through the box by Alexi Amarista in the sixth. "He had everything working from the get-go, all four pitches," Ellis said. "He used both of his breaking balls so effectively, and this was as strong a slider as Ive seen him throw this season." J.P. Howell relieved Brandon League in the seventh with runners at first and second and retired Brooks Conrad on a lineout. Kenley Jansen struggled to get his 27th save. He struck out striking out Jake Goebbert with runners at the corners, then fanned pinch-hitter Seth Smith to end it after a visit from manager Don Mattingly. "Basically, he just told me to go with my best stuff, be aggressive and attack them. And thats what I did," Jansen said. Ross (7-10) gave up six hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. The Dodgers scored when Gordon singled with one out in the sixth and stole second. After Carl Crawford walked, Puig singled to centre. "I felt a little tired in the sixth, made a couple of mistakes, and they capitalized on them," Ross said. "Im continuing to learn and develop, and next time around I wont make those mistakes. Puig hit a slider that kind of backed up on me. Hes a big, strong guy and he basically muscled it through the infield." NOTES: Puig hasnt tried to steal a base in his last 26 games, and has been thrown out on his last three attempts. He is 7 for 14 this season and only 18 for 33 in the majors -- 55 per cent. "We know Yasiel is fast, but he hasnt proven to this point that he really knows how to steal a base," Mattingly said. "Ive seen a lot of guys that are fast who really dont know how to steal bases. The goal is not to get thrown out. I mean, if the base is there to be stolen, and the situation is right, then were going to allow him to run. If not, were not going to be running with him because we dont want to give up outs." ... Puig, a first-time All-Star, goes into the break with a .309 average -- 38 points lower than it was on June 1 -- and has struck out seven times in his last 14 at-bats. ... The Padres rotation coming out of the All-Star break will be Ian Kennedy, Ross and Odrisamer Despaigne for the home series with the Mets, and Eric Stults for the opener against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Loui Eriksson Jersey .Y. -- The New York Islanders were merely content with a lopsided victory. Custom Vancouver Canucks Jerseys . UEFA said Wednesday that the champions of England and France only have to include five home-trained players in their 21-man squads next season instead of the expected eight. Only one of the five players needs to be trained by the club itself. http://www.thecanuckshockeystore.com/Canucks-Sven-Baertschi-Adidas-Jersey/ . Thats exactly what happened. And they enjoyed every moment. Durant remained sizzling with 33 points, Serge Ibaka added 22 and the Thunder roared back from an abysmal start -- they trailed 22-4 early -- to embarrass the Miami Heat 112-95 on Wednesday night, erasing that big deficit out of the gate by outscoring the two-time defending champions by 43 points over a 33-minute span.Every night of the Stanley Cup playoffs, TSN hockey analyst and former NHL goaltender Jamie McLennan breaks down each goalies performance. Jamies number grades given are out of five, with five being the best mark. Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh (2) - Fleury had a great game tonight for 59 minutes and I had a 4-rating cued up. And why wouldnt I when you stop 42 shots? The second period was his best work when he made at least six big saves on Jack Johnson, Ryan Johansen and Brandon Dubinsky. But its not the saves you make, its the goals you allow. There was a bad bounce on the tying goal, the puck jumping over his stick behind the net, but the game-winning goal was stoppable on all accounts and a series-changer! Where does he go from here mentally? That will be the TSN Turning Point of the series. Sergei Bobrovsky, Columbus (3) - He had tough start as he gave up three early goals, but he locked it down after that. Bobrovsky made good saves on James Neal and Lee Stempniak to keep his team in it. Frederik Andersen, Anaheim (2) - Just not good enough tonight for his team, giving up two bad goals to Jamie Benn and Vernon Fiddler- both short side. Fiddlers was worse because he did not seal the post properly from a bad angle. Andersen despeerately needs a bounce-back game in Anaheim. Patrick Wiercioch Jersey. Jonas Hiller, Anaheim (N/R) - He faced one shot in 10 minutes. Kari Lehtonen, Dallas (4) - He had no chance on the Patrick Maroon goal. Lehtonen made good saves on Kyle Palmieri, Emerson Etem and Corey Perry. He was confident, in control and played an aggressive game. Lehtonen was good with the puck again, even to the point where he went for the empty-netter with under a minute to play. Ryan Miller, St. Louis (3) - The game-winning goal was a great look by Patrick Kane, who went short side past Kevin Shattenkirks leg. Miller made big saves on Brandon Saad, Andrew Shaw, Bryan Bickell and Kane earlier in the game and was very solid in his crease work through screens and tips. He didnt have much chance on backdoor play by Kane and tips by Bickell and Shaw. Corey Crawford, Chicago (3) - Crawford had two big saves on T.J. Oshie and Vladimir Tarasenko in OT to bounce back from two quickies in the last minute of the second period. The Tarasenko goal snuck just over the pad and under the glove short side - one he needs to have, but resiliency and mental toughness always come to mind when I think of Crawford, a battler whom his team plays hard for.
